Having a daily quiet time is imperative to creating strong faith and deep intimacy with the Lord. Just like a daily exercise routine keeps us physically healthy. A daily quiet time routine with the Lord will keep us spiritually healthy. We may not see results right away, but if we stay consistent, the impact of our quiet time routine will become apparent.
The Bible is full of promises that are potentially ours, but we need to know and claim those promises to possess them. The following is my current blueprint for my quiet time. It may change over the years. I may add more to it as I grow in wisdom and biblical knowledge, and I share it as an example or a starting point for others to cultivate their personal quiet time routine.
- I praise the Lord and thank Him for His many blessings by listing them one at a time. Gratitude to our Heavenly Father puts us in the right frame of mind to begin our quiet time.
- I read the Priestly Prayer over myself and my family. I replace the word “you,” with the names of my family members.“The Lord bless you, and keep you [protect you, sustain you, and guard you]; The Lord make His face shine upon you [with favor], And be gracious to you [surrounding you with lovingkindness]; The Lord lift up His countenance (face) upon you [with divine approval], And give you peace [a tranquil heart and life]” (Numbers 6.24-26 AMP).
- I release the 7 spirits found in Isaiah 11.2 (NASB). 1) The Spirit of the LORD 2) The Spirit of wisdom 3) The Spirit of understanding 4) The Spirit of counsel 5) The Spirit of strength 6) The Spirit of knowledge 7) The Spirit of the fear of the LORD.
- I release the Fruits of the Spirit found in Galatians 5.22-23: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control.
- I put on the Armor of God: 1) Helmet of Salvation — my mind is renewed in Christ and the Holy Spirit has rewired my thoughts to align with God and Heaven. 2) Belt of Truth — I am a child of the Almighty God. My identity is found in Him. I am loved. I have a purpose. I am an amazing wife, mother and writer, etc. 3) Breastplate of Righteousness — I am the righteousness of God through Jesus Christ. The enemy has no right to attack me. In fact, the devil’s arrows turn to roses at my feet. 4) Shoes of Peace — I will not be triggered to lose my peace by others or circumstances. I have been saved by the Good News of Jesus Christ. There is no need for me to lose my peace. 5) Shield of Faith — I am God’s representative on earth. I take back ground from the enemy by pushing forward with my shield of faith. The enemy has no authority and must move. 6) Sword of the Spirit — I use God’s Word, the Bible, and His personal words to me to take down the enemy and expose his schemes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10.10).
- I tuck my soul and body into my Spirit, so I can be spirit-led. 1) I tuck my mind — my thoughts and imaginings into the Spirit. 2) I tuck my heart — my emotions and feelings into the Spirit. 3) I tuck my will — my decisions and actions into the Spirit. 4) I tuck my body — my skin, organs, hormones and functions into the Spirit.
- I plead the Blood of Jesus Christ over me, my family, my books and my husband’s businesses. The Blood of Jesus declares us holy and righteous and not guilty.
- I go into the Courts of Heaven before the Judge and the Cloud of Witnesses and break the enemy’s schemes, attacks, lies and accusations. I also break the spirit of fear, the harassing spirit, the hindering spirit, any familiar spirits, the spirit of lack, sickness, disease and discouragement. Then I loose breakthrough, provision, faith, truth, divine connections, favor, courage, protection, healing, wholeness and rest.
- I speak in tongues. God sees what we don’t see, so I need to speak in tongues, trusting that I am praying the will of God.
- Prayer declarations. I pray for myself and the people in my life for specific needs. I don’t ask or beg; rather, I declare that the need is being met by faith.
- Bible reading. I read my Bible and meditate on what the Holy Spirit is showing me which applies to my life and current situation.
- I listen and write. I quiet my mind and listen for what God wants to say to me. Sometimes, He says a lot. Other times, only a few words. I write them down.
- I take communion. I buy the little communion disposable cups with the wafer and grape juice. The wafer is the Body of Christ, and I reminded that Jesus has provided all I need to achieve God’s will and my destiny. The juice is the Blood of Christ, washing away all areas of sin, pain, brokenness and sickness in my life.
Sometimes. my quiet times last only 30 minutes. Other times, it lasts over an hour. No matter what, though, consistency is the key. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t feel a difference right away. Pray proactively instead of when the time is already dire. You will be amazed at our equipped you will be when facing difficulties.
