God gives us words and promises in the Bible and words and promises to us personally. When we allow God to share these promises with us through the Bible and the Holy Spirit, we can claim them with confidence. Every promise in the Bible is potentially ours. However, we must know them, believe them and claim them.
The best way to ensure our promises will come to fruition is to ask God what He wants to give us and do in our lives. Once we get a word of knowledge from Him, we can pray His answer back to Him. We can trust that the promise will come true because He is the One Who gave it. Seeking God is crucial to answered prayers. Moreover, we can find promises in the Bible and claim those, as well. The promises may not be fulfilled right away, but we can continue to pray by faith each day, believing that God wants to bless us with every good thing in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1.3).
But what if our prayer is not realized? Did God let us down? The answer is no. God is perfect love and can never let us down. He loves us and wants only the best for us. Many times, though, it is our own expectations that let us down. We desire a promise, and we want it to be achieved in a certain way. God’s thoughts are not like ours, though, and His ways are beyond our understanding (Isaiah 55.8-9). He has a greater picture of the best life that affects all people, and we can’t always see what He is doing behind the scenes.
The first step to take when faced with a difficult situation is not to fear. Fear shows mistrust in God. Instead, we can remind ourselves how much God loves us—so much that He would die for us (John 3.16). Love disperses all fear (1 John 4.18). Then we ask God three questions: What do you want me to know in this situation? What do you want me to do? And will I succeed?
God is all-knowing, and He wants to share His insights with us (1 Corinthians 2.10). He also gives us His insights through His Word, the Bible. We must seek Him and His Word and find His will and promises for the next stage of our lives.
Finally, success in our promises can come in many forms. What the world deems as foolish God sees as wise (1 Corinthians 1.27). This means that our “success” may not look like a victory to the world, but if God has called us to obedience, we must leave the outcome in His hands. Our success is believing and obeying the voice of God. . He is a good Father, and He wants to bless us with the desires of our hearts (Psalm 37.4).
“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7.11 NIV).
